Taxonomy Motivation
·
A taxonomy can
provide developers with a (more) objective framework within which to make
choices about locomotion
·
Bowman’s taxonomy
(Direction/Target selection, Velocity/Acceleration, Input conditions)
·
New taxonomy,
main difference from Bowman – the VR system must be integral to the taxonomy,
because virtual locomotion always occurs in a VE.
·
Most prominent
features of the VR system are input devices and output devices
·
These should be
considered because they can lead to fundamentally different experiences for the
user
·
Include
translational and rotational aspects of movement separately
·
Rotation and
translation are divided into virtual and physical sub-categories
